4. To Face the Sun, the 4th book in the series, shows World War II in the Pacific. Kenna and her husband, Brig. General Fitzpatrick, who is on MacArthur’s staff, are in Australia. Their son Jack is in the navy, and their daughter, Amanda “Sunny” Fitzpatrick, is a nurse on a hospital ship, that picks up the wounded from the various islands in the Pacific. When the ship is sunk, Sunny winds up on a dangerous island in the Solomons with the coastal watcher, Alex Ramsay, the British marquess of Dalhousie.
3. On Wings of Fire, the third in the series, takes place in World War II, with a convoluted love relationship between the second generation: Alpharetta, who flies with the WASPs, (the Women’s Air Service Pilots) and goes on a dangerous secret mission; Belline, Steppie’s adopted daughter, who is a member of the USO;; Ben Mark, a pilot with the U.S. 8th Air Force, and “Marsh” Wexford, a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne, whose heroic exploits from Sicily to Operation Market Garden highlight the role of the pathfinders.
2. From Love’s Ashes, the second in the series, takes place in the 1930s in Atlanta in a scandal-ridden society of power brokers, with three male cousins threatening the well-being of Steppie, who is accused of murdering her husband, Kenna’s half- brother, who has never recovered from World War I. Only Creag, who has loved her from afar, can save her.
1. Phoenix Rising encompasses a World War I love story between Kenna Chalmers, a debutante who becomes a nurse in an army base hospital in France and Capt. John “Irish” Fitzpatrick, a member of the 82nd Division, who fights in some of the bloodiest battles of the war.
